Yeah it seems like these apps are a barometer of trust.

App install rates, probably

FWIW I installed the Australian app the night it came out, and am recommending everyone else to do the same. (It doesn’t track latitude/longitude and doesn’t upload any contact tracing data unless I test positive and click the button.)

Not because I ‘feel’ like I can trust the government, not because if I had to guess (which I do) I’d say that there is a good chance the app can be trusted, but because it will help slow the spread of a disease that’s killing people and allow us to return to normal more quickly.

It’s a pity that so many people make this decision not based on evidence of any sort, but rather on how they feel, and disregard the impact that will have on real human beings. It’s a sign that when it comes to the crunch, people are ultimately selfish creatures.
