How I learnt web development

I wrote my first line of code at 35, the year was striking 2013.

I don’t remember the exact details of my life before this point. I had some sales jobs, I did Excel training, I was a talent scout for a modelling agency. Then one day I was configuring an SAP Business Objects report for a client and discovered I could write a thing called a ‘java script’ to customise the report.

Three hours later I had written one line of code (it started with document.write) and I thought: yeah, I want to do this now.

So I quit my job, burnt my bridges so I couldn’t turn back, and jumped into the wide world of web development.

Before we continue, let me address the elephant in the room: my ego. You might think it’s big-headed of me to write about how I learnt web development, like I’m so special. Well, a) it is and I am, but b) I’ve been asked by three people to write this blog post, so that’s what I’m going to do. (One of them was in a Medium comment, the other two came to me in a dream.)

Lettuce begin.

2013

The most daunting thing about this endeavour was knowing that in the not-too-distant future I’d be sitting in a job interview as a 35 year old ‘junior’ developer with no programming experience. Spew.
